Announcement: GM ALDL Logging and Scanning

This thread is to discuss and learn about ALDL logging/scanning/hacking.

I picked up my ALDL today, works perfectly!, bought one from VL400 over at delco hacking, I highly recommend him, great bloke!

I am using efilive4 for the logging.

I don't know a whole lot about ALDL logging... yet but here is the first log, engine off, accessories on:

Announcement: Fitting an Optima Battery to a VE

Information on fitting an Optima Red Top Battery to a VE Commodore

14686

A number of people have wondered if the Optima Range of batteries (specifically the Yellow and Red Top) will fit a VE Commodore.
The short answer is yes they do fit, but you will need to slightly modify things to make them fit.

For Example, the Optima Yellow top 34 has the battery terminals swapped over, compared to a stock VE Battery.

For the Optima Red Top 34R, the battery terminals are in the correct locations, however the negative battery electrical connector will require straightening to clear the battery.
Also, the Negative battery lead will be very tight (I.E. there will be very little play) when connecting to the battery.

Finally, you will need to fit the plastic feet that are supplied to the battery, as well as the plastic spacer between the battery and the upper battery holder.

Announcement: Fitting HSV E3 Steering Wheel Controls to VE Series I

Some people may know this already...

14799

In my attempts to get some SW Can sniffing on the bench, I ordered some new steering wheel controls.

These controls are from a 2012 E3 HSV (Unsure the exact model), and have an extra button, and slightly
different labeling on them.
(The right hand side scroll wheel has a push to select function, like the Left Hand Side scroll wheel button on all models).

I connected these controls up and surprise surprise, ALL the buttons work !!!
(The Left Hand side buttons work as per normal, the Right Hand Side buttons operate differently to the labels on the steering wheel).

When fitting E3 HSV Buttons, the following RHS buttons are mapped accordingly,

EDI (Upper RHS Button) = Activate Telephone (Bluetooth)
NAV (Lower RHS Button) = Display Navigation details on the cluster Screen (Works !!!!)
Scroll Up and Down RHS = Volume Up and Down.
Pressing RHS Scroll Wheel = Audio Mute.

So, basically the lower RHS button has been swapped with the scroll wheel, and the lower RHS button becomes a NAVigation information button.

(I thought I would post this up, as I read some BS on a G8 forum that the G8 uses different buttons which would only work with a G8 cluster, and that you couldn't fit an Aussie cluster to a G8 because the buttons would cause grief, and possibly would need to be changed).

Announcement: Holden VT and VX Instrument Cluster EEPROM Programming

Hey All just thought I'd start fresh in this thread rather than taking over the other thread!

I have a couple of dumps off VT-VX single & triple LCD eeproms that use a micro 93S56 serial eeprom!

If anyone has any locations to find info in the dumps, if they have wiring pin out diagrams to make bench test or if they know the odo calculation & if there's any check sum going on that would be great!
