JAYLEC Racing Falcon driver Tim Blanchard is on top after opening practice for the second round of the Dunlop Series for V8 Supercars at Barbagallo Raceway in Perth, Western Australia.
A pair of 40-minute sessions were held today to kick off the weekends action, a whole nine weeks after the opening round on the streets of Adelaide at the Clipsal 500.
Blanchard topped the times in the opening session after the early running was affected by a wet track.
Eventually the circuit dried out somewhat and he was able to record a 58.0478s lap, 0.07s quicker than championship leader Chaz Mostert with Scott McLaughlin third from Andrew Jones and David Russell.
The second session was again weather affected, though this time the track did not dry out as much and thus the times were slower.
For the record, Mostert was fastest on 1m04.6168s in Practice 2, clear of Dale Wood, Luke Youlden, Geoff Emery and Scott Pye.
The notorious Barbagallo sand traps claimed their fair share of victims today.
Greg Murphy Racing driver Wood brought out the red flag in the first session when he ran off the road at turn 7 and was buried in the sand trap, while Luke Youldens Performance West Falcon escaped the turn 1 sand trap after running off the road.
Newcastle rookie Michael Hector followed Woods efforts in Practice 2, bringing out the red flag when he bunked himself at the same corner.
All 25 cars entered took to the circuit today with qualifying and two races to be held tomorrow.
Qualifying will be first up at 9.00am local time (11.00am AEST) with Race 1 at 11.30am (1.30pm AEST) and Race 2 at 4.40pm (6.40pm AEST).
