THE Bottle-O Racing Team driver David Reynolds has topped the timesheets in todays opening practice session at the Tradingpost Perth Challenge at Barbagallo Raceway in Perth, Western Australia.
The Melbourne-based driver clocked a 1m03.5783s to top the 14 cars that took to the wet 2.4-kilometre circuit.
The time was some seven seconds slower than last years fastest time in a dry first practice in Perth a 56.6849s set by Russell Ingall.
The circuit was still wet when drivers rolled onto the circuit for the opening 30-minute session after early morning rain had made for a wet track for a range of support categories.
The session was limited to rookies and the bottom 14 drivers in the V8 Supercars Championship pointscore, with lap times nowhere near the pace generated in the dry.
Regular Friday session-topper Reynolds moved to the top of the timesheets with five minutes to go, pipping the Pepsi Max Crews Greg Murphy.
Murphy ended the session second fastest, 0.20s slower than the Falcon.
Third fastest was 2005 V8 Supercars champion Ingall from home town driver Dean Fiore, James Courtney, Alex Premat and Taz Douglas, whose Team iSeek Commodore found the sand late in the session and forced it to be red-flagged.
Wet weather looks like it may be a constant for this weekends Barbagallo event with rain forecast for the next two days.
There has not been a wet V8 Supercar event at the Western Australian circuit since 1997 which was the last-ever Australian Touring Car Championship/V8 Supercars Championship round won by the late Peter Brock in his final year with the Holden Racing Team.
The cars will return to the track for Practice 2 at 12.20pm (2.20pm AEST), which is another session limited to rookies and drivers in the bottom half of the V8 Supercars Championship points.
Practice 3 will be at 2.35pm (4.35pm AEST) with the fourth and final session at 3.55pm (5.55pm AEST).
Keep checking back to the BigPond Sport website for updates from the circuit.
