Swapping SIC main board

Specific interior modification information for Holden Commodore VE and VEII Series Commodores, and HSV E1, E2, and E3 models

Hey all

I picked up a 3-gauge atari style SIC for the costly price of $15 off ebay

Problem is when it got to my place it has a few deep scratches on the LCD panel, which will annoy me if I installed it like that

My question, having popped the black plastic cover off the SIC, it appears the main board is held into place by 4x bent and soldered tabs to the main silver chassis, a couple of clips to the main SIC body, and obviously the LCD ribbon cable also runs to the board.

If I were to swap these main boards, so the 3 gauge board is married to my existing 2-gauge LCD panel and chassis, can I expect any troubles or should it work? Theoretically the LCD is the same, its either the board or the programming of the boards that's different and I'm replacing this in its entirety.

I don't want to go to all the effort of stripping down and rebuilding a couple of SICs if someone knows for a fact that it wont work for some reason, but I'm happy too if someone can confirm it will work so I don't have a few dirty scratches annoying me for the rest of the life of the car.

Cheers

Should work fine, the displays are interchangeable.
The only difference between the 2 gauge and 3 gauge SIC is the firmware programmed into the MCU chip and the eeprom.

ok, well in case anyone in the future has this question

Yes, it works. I swapped the 3 gauge board with the damaged LCD panel from a SS-V to my 2 gauge pristine LCD from the SV6. The soldered tabs are a bit of a pain in the ass to unsolder and bend, I ended up breaking part of the PCB around it, but its all good just bend the tabs back when you swap board over and it fits snug.
