Driving light install question(s)

Hello, I want to install driving lights on to my 2009 Pontiac G8GT. (Commodore VE) What is a good place in the engine compartment to get power instead of all the way to +battery terminal of the battery in the trunk? Also it seems that most wiring harness diagrams show a connection to - terminal of the battery. Could ground in engine compartment be used instead? I plan on installing led driving lights that are lightweight and should work on a license plate light mount. Thanks for any replies.
