!90 kw engine in a VZ ute

Discuss Diagnostic Trouble Codes and Parameter IDs for the Holden VY and VZ Commodores, Pontiac GTO, Vauxhall Monaro, and Chevrolet Lumina Models

Hi all.
I have a VZ ute with std 175 kw engine, and I have a 190 engine complete with computer, which looks like it'll bolt straight in, and plug straight up to the car's loom. The 190 is from an SV6 auto which was a 5speed, but the ute has a 4 sp auto in it. Has anyone out there done this swap over, and therefore knows all the tricks?? Cheers.

You'll need the ecu to be configured for a 5speed. Plus the ecu,bcm and PIM need to be security linked for everything to work!

Thank you Tazzi! Just to clarify, the 190 and it's ecu is out of an SV6 5speed auto, and going into a 4 speed auto. The 5 speed has the 'paddles' on the steering wheel, so are you saying I need to configure the ecu to suit the 4 speed? Assuming I will have to use the ecu that belongs to the 190, (to run the quad vct) ? Cheers, Lachie

I'm only speculating based off of the tuning options available in commercial software. Your able to configure the transmission settings in there, but you would best be set out asking a local tuning place, or even better, see if a place like efilive or hptuners can give you a definate answer on what exactly needs to be modified!

Also note that auto VZ's have a transmission control module.
