VF GMLAN Stuff

Hi All
Couldnt find a specific VF place to post this.
Decided to play around with some GMLAN stuff on a VF Calais-V
Using Raspberry pi 3 with a cheap ebay MCP2515 modified module connected to pin 1 & 5 on obd2 connector.

Will post what else i find, would love if people post up their findings.


1020c040#0500002201 -- makes both indicator lamps on the dash light up
1020c040#0500000001 -- turns off both indicator lamps on dash


or use the below script in linux

Good to see someones playing around on the gmlan bus!

Theres soooooooooooooooo many messages and commands going on at any one time, it can be quite overwhelming.

Tell me about it, i realised that cansniffer only works with 11bit messages and not 29bit so had to use candump to isolate the message of interest.

Sounds like some custom coding is in order
I find manually searching through frames takes forever.. dont make the mistake like I did and try copy/paste large dumps into word... I found out the hard way that 1000+pages results in crashing the laptop

Need to put in some more coding to ignore repeated frames and only display new frames.

For sure, I recently found a program somebody made called canqv that does what cansniffer does but also works with 29bit messages, also have done some work in excel to remove baseline messages and only display new ones.

Have you tried sending those to the car, do they actually control changing those parameters.. or are they just "broadcast" indicting the new change?

Yea i tested them yesterday and they do control the function just as if the actual button was pressed.

Kind of cool controlling the volume from a computer.

Now to get cracking on a program to do other functions when certain sequence of buttons are pressed.

Tried those, didn't notice any difference unfortunately.

the commands control the radio from the steering wheel or you can use it as receive commands to control something from the steering wheel here is my video i made a while ago with an android app that controls the music track.
