Factory Head Unit / Stereo Wiring Information for the Chevrolet VE Caprice

  • The following guide outlines the connectors, wire colours, and wiring information for the factory fitted VE Series I Radios.
This includes Level 1 (Omega Models), Level 2 (SV6, SS Models), Level 3 (SS-V, Calais and HSV SWB Models), and Level 4 (Long wheelbase Statesman and Caprice Models).

This guide also includes an important note regarding fitting Late (Model Year 9.5) Head Units to earlier (Model Years 2006 to 2009) Vehicles.
  • To remove the factory HVAC / Radio head Unit from the vehicle, you will require the following tools.
1 x Phllips head screw driver,
1 x Small Flat Headed screw driver, for unclipping the radio antenna connector(s)
  • Firstly, a big thankyou goes to DoubleDip for posting this important information in the forums !!!!!
Without this information, many members were blowing fuses when fitting late model head units to earlier model vehicles.

Procedure for installing Version 9 (MY09.5) radio into earlier built vehicle (pre MY09.5)
During the life of VE and WM vehicles there have been several revisions to the radio.
These different radios have different version numbers assigned to them.
Vehicles built prior to 27/10/08 (Introduction date of MY09.5 - BSI) will have a version 4, version 5 or version 6 radio.
At MY09.5 introduction, the version was updated to version 9.
In some cases when replacing a radio, dealers will be supplied a later version radio by Bosch.

Installing a version 9 radio into an earlier built vehicle will result in fuse 4 (radio) blowing.
In order to prevent this happening, a modification to the wiring harness is required.
Follow the procedure below when installing a version 9 radio into an earlier vehicle.
Version 9 radios can be identified by the Holden P/N or Bosch P/N on the unit. Refer to following table which lists all version 9 P/N?s.

    92228617 7648795920-002
    92228615 7648796920-002

    Procedure:
    1. Disconnect the battery
    2. Remove the radio.
    3. Locate pin 4 of connector X4 at radio.
    4. Cut the wire going to pin 4 and insulate both ends with heat shrink or similar.
    5. Refit the radio and reconnect the battery.
    6. Test operation of the radio.
