PONTIAC PERFORMANCE RENAISSANCE IN FULL SWING

With the momentum generated by the introduction of several new products, all with the styling and performance traits that are the hallmarks of Pontiac’s brand, 2005 promises to be a stirring year.

"From the exciting GTO and all-new G6 midsize sedan, to the introduction of the Montana SV6 - Pontiac's newest crossover vehicle - our lineup has never been stronger," said Jim Bunnell, Pontiac-GMC general manager. "All the elements have come together in our products to emphasize Pontiac's fresh design direction and renewed performance spirit - and demonstrate GM's commitment to market leadership in the car market."

The all-new G6 leads Pontiac’s new-product initiative for ’05. A game-changing midsize sedan with a class-leading 112.3-inch (2852 mm) wheelbase for superior roominess and ride comfort, the G6 also carries Pontiac’s dramatic yet refined new design language.

The G6 is a tightly wrapped package of contemporary, athletic styling; total performance; interior and exterior refinements and outstanding quality and safety, including:

* All-new family of performance-oriented powertrains, including the 200-horsepower (149 kw) 3500 3.5L V-6
* Four-wheel sport-tuned independent suspension, with MacPherson strut front suspension, four-link independent rear suspension, variable-assist electric power steering, full function traction control, and a range of 16-, 17-, and 18-inch performance wheels and tires
* GM’s global Epsilon architecture with cross-car magnesium beam results in 27.3 Hz bending frequency which provides rigidity and body stiffness for quiet, solid and more responsive ride and handling characteristics
* Available market-exclusive Panoramic roof, which features four sliding glass panels to create a convertible-style open-air driving experience
* Outstanding quality, reliability and safety, including standard dual-stage air bags, and available side- and head curtain air bags.

Here’s a look at the other 2005 contributors to Pontiac’s performance renaissance:

GTO

Enjoying a place back in Pontiac’s lineup for the first time in 30 years, the GTO answers the call of modern muscle car enthusiasts. For 2005, the GTO receives a new engine – the LS2 V-8 – and new exterior choices The LS2 produces 400 horsepower (295 kw); up from 350 horses (261 kw), and 395 lb.-ft. of torque (546 Nm), up from 365 lb.-ft, (495 Nm). More rumble comes from a new, split dual-exhaust system and new exterior options include two new colors and an available hood scoop.

Grand Prix

All new in ’04, the sleek Grand Prix’s popularity continues to grow. Minor enhancements have been made for ’05, while every Grand Prix comes with a wedge design that makes this sensuous sedan look like a coupe at first glance. The Grand Prix’s top offering is the GTP with the supercharged 3800 3.8L Series III V-6 that produces 260 hp (186 kw). The Competition Group Package (Comp G), optional on the GTP models, includes StabiliTrak, TAPshift and performance-tuned chassis components for fast, flat cornering.

Vibe

Refreshed for 2005, Pontiac’s original crossover vehicle sports a redesigned front fascia and grille, with an appearance similar to the upcoming 2006 Solstice sports car. A host of safety and convenience features have been added for ’05, too, including available leather seating, StabiliTrak stability control system and side-curtain air bags.

Montana SV6

Designed with the rugged styling cues of an SUV, but with the versatility and capabilities of a mid-van, the Montana SV6 joins the Vibe as Pontiac’s second new crossover vehicle in less than three years. The Montana SV6’s lengthy list of features includes the new 200-hp (149-kw) 3500 3.5L V-6, seats that fold to create a flat load floor, an overhead rail storage system, a standard DVD entertainment system and the first-in-segment Mobile Digital Media Powered by PhatNoise system (interim ’05).

Bonneville

The Bonneville GXP returns for ’05 with its powerful, 275-hp (205-kw) V-8 engine and refined appearance. For 2005, the well-equipped SLE model receives the GXP’s sleek styling cues. SLE and SE models are powered by the proven 3800 V-6 and, like the GXP, they come with the safety, convenience and personalization features that make long drives more comfortable.

Aztek

Powered by the 3400 3.4L V-6 with available all-wheel drive, the Aztek is the choice for customers whose needs are as diverse as their interests. A thoughtful list of safety and convenience features, including OnStar and XM Satellite Radio (continental U.S. only), makes Aztek a great value, too.

Sunfire

With its sleek, contemporary styling and exciting performance derived from its 2.2L Ecotec engine, the Sunfire is an affordable choice for sport-compact enthusiasts. For ’05, the Sunfire receives four new exterior colors and an available Sport Appearance Package that includes 16-inch Chrome Tech wheels, performance tires, the FE2 sport suspension, a sport interior package and other special appearance items.

Grand Am

Grand Am GT coupes will be the only retail models available, as Grand Am is phased out of Pontiac’s lineup. An SC/T Special Edition, with unique appointments, is available on GT1 models. Pontiac will continue to offer a Grand Am sedan for fleet customers.
