PONTIAC’S NEW-PRODUCT MOMENTUM INTENSIFIES IN 2009 WITH G8 GXP, REDESIGNED VIBE AND SLEEK SOLSTICE COUPE

DETROIT – Pontiac’s mission to provide vehicles that are progressive in design, exciting to drive and offer exceptional performance gains momentum in 2009 with all-new models and the full-scale production of recently introduced new vehicles.

Leading the charge for ’09 is the G8 performance sedan, a rear-drive car that has garnered praise from the automotive press and enthusiasm from new owners. A high-performance G8 GXP model joins the lineup in late 2008, packing a 400+hp (299+kW) 6.2L V-8 that gives driving enthusiasts an attractive alternative to sports cars costing far more.

Already in showrooms is the redesigned 2009 Pontiac Vibe. If features all-new exterior and interior styling, along with the return of the performance-oriented GT and all-weather AWD models. The new Vibe’s combination of sleek styling, great refinement and a responsive driving experience has made it a popular choice for customers seeking a spacious and efficient crossover.

Also new is the Solstice coupe, arriving in early 2009. It blends the fun-to-drive spirit and curvaceous design of the original roadster with a sleek roof profile that will appeal to year-round enthusiasts of all climates. A removable roof panel on the coupe enables open-air motoring that is a hallmark of the Solstice’s driving experience.

Here’s a look at Pontiac’s lineup for 2009:

G5

A new, more efficient version of the 2.2L Ecotec engine delivers a dramatic increase in fuel economy. It uses variable valve timing to optimize fuel economy at all speeds, for an EPA-estimated highway rating of 37 mpg, along with a 7-hp (3 kW) increase in power. Additionally, the G5 coupe continues to offer a wide range of standard comfort, convenience and safety features – many not found on competitors’ models – with new features including Bluetooth wireless phone connection and an iPod-compatible USB port in the radio. The G5 is available in base and GT models, all marked by clean lines, a spacious, five-passenger interior and standard rear spoiler.

G6

The Pontiac G6 portfolio is a family of distinctive, midsize cars that offers something for every driver looking for a powerful and responsive – yet fuel-efficient – vehicle. New for 2009, the 2.4L engine is offered with a six-speed automatic transmission that delivers EPA-estimated fuel economy of 22 mpg in the city and 32 on the highway. This powertrain combination is offered with the Sport Package on base sedans.

In addition to the new powertrain combination, changes for 2009 reflect alignment with consumer popularity, providing customers easier ways to find a G6 equipped just the way they want it. The changes include:

* XM Satellite Radio standard on all models (previously optional on base models)
* Remote vehicle starting system is standard on GT and GXP models; optional on base models
* Rear spoiler now standard on GT (previously optional)
* Sport Package 2
* Sun and Sound Plus package

G8

The 2009 lineup comprises three models: G8, G8 GT and the new G8 GXP (late 2008 availability). New features for all ’09 models include XM Satellite Radio and Bluetooth capability (available in late 2008), which are partnered with the following standard features:

* Four-wheel independent suspension
* Four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and traction control
* Electronic stability control
* Seat-mounted thorax air bags and dual-stage frontal air bags for front passengers, with automatic passenger sensing system
* Roof rail side-impact air bags for both seating rows
* OnStar
* Power-adjustable front seats
* Fog lamps
* Chrome exhaust tips
* Rear lip spoiler

The new GXP is powered by a 6.2L LS3 V-8 that is rated at 400+ horsepower (299+ kW) and offers razor-sharp ride and handling traits. The GXP is a high-performance sedan unlike anything else in the segment.

Solstice

Already the best-selling roadster in the United States, the Pontiac Solstice family expands in 2009 with a new, sleek coupe model. It is equipped with a removable roof that enables an open-air driving experience, while offering a greater range of all-season driving opportunities. Like the original Solstice roadster, the new coupe is available in base and GXP models – the latter powered by a 2.0L turbocharged and intercooled Ecotec engine with direct-injection technology. It is the foundation of an invigorating, racetrack-validated driving experience and surprising efficiency; the high-performance Solstice GXP is rated at 28 mpg in highway driving.

Content changes for all ’09 models are few, but bring popular performance and safety features to all models as standard equipment, including anti-lock brakes, StabiliTrak electronic stability control system and limited-slip differential.

Bluetooth capability is enabled with Solstice’s standard OnStar system for 2009. This wireless technology enables hands-free phone calls, for safer, more convenient connections.

Torrent

With the capability of an SUV and excellent ride and handling traits, the Pontiac Torrent is a stylish crossover that’s ready for all active lifestyles. For 2009, that combination is offered in both a base model and the high-performance Torrent GXP – a unique vehicle with the power, performance and agility one expects of a Pontiac and the capability of a sport-utility vehicle.

Changes to the ’09 Torrent lineup upgrade popular entertainment and safety options to standard equipment on all models, including XM Satellite Radio and head-curtain side-impact air bags. Additional changes and new content include three new exterior colors and available Bluetooth phone connectivity.

Vibe

The all-new 2009 Pontiac Vibe is a modern re-mix of a classic hit, infusing the functionality of a compact crossover with a bolder attitude of athletic styling, increased performance and tight handling. The popular all-wheel-drive and GT models return to the Vibe lineup – and all models offer a level of athletic design, boosted performance and everyday versatility uncommon in the price range.

The 2009 Vibe includes a number of all-new and enhanced features, including:

* More powerful 1.8L base engine and a new, high-output 2.4L engine
* Athletic exterior styling with a faster windshield, all-new sheet metal and lighting elements
* Refreshed, driver-focused interior styling with more harmonious integration of the controls
* Standard electronic vehicle stability control and tire pressure monitoring systems
* Six standard air bags
* Enhanced functionality with integrated cargo management system and fold-flat front seat on all models equipped with the 2.4L engine
