Instrument Cluster Swap

Specific interior modification information for Holden Commodore VE and VEII Series Commodores, and HSV E1, E2, and E3 models

I apologise if this has been covered before but...

I have a nov 2010 seriesII sv6 and due to red/blue colourblindness have serious difficulty reading the lcd

I have the option of buying a new 2011 e3 HSV cluster that will take a while to get to me and will need programming to boot... OR I also have the option of a march 2012 Calais cluster. I'd prefer the Calais cluster (the hsv one seems a bit pretentious to put in an sv6 to me). It comes from a wreck that had the same 3.6 SIDI motor and tranny, and similar miles to my sv6.

Can the Calais cluster simply be swapped into my sv6 or are there other things that need doing... and is the mar2012 seriesII calais cluster compatible with/to the nov2010 SeriesII sv6 (I had heard that some seriesII clusters were different or incompatible, that they could short out the electrics - but that might be wrong, could be just the dealer trying to scare me into buying their $1200 one)

I suggest you read page 1 to 7 of the VE cluster eeprom programming as that should cover most of your questions.

Short and simple answer is no, it will not be a simply plug in of the new cluster since it requires reprogramming of the vin (let me know if im wrong but im sure it checks on startup) and other parameters to get all lcd screens working.

Sorry I might have oversimplified my question

I realise that any cluster would require programming...

What I needed to know was whether the March 2013 cluster would work in the Nov2010 (seriesII) car... There seems to be some commentary around suggesting holden changed something in the clusters during 2012 and I was wanting to make sure before buying it

As long as it 'should' work (after the Vin, mileage etc is coded) then I am happy

Just bit of info for you, I just done a calais cluster swap on my sv6. I am pretty sure that the 2012 will work good in yours. As from all my research before doing my swap they did not change the clusters in 2012. My sv6 is 9/2010 VEII sportwagon & the CALAIS cluster was from a 11/2010 VEII calais sedan with 21k on it & my sv6 one had 70k on it. Just put it in, no programming, no tech 2 no nothing & all works perfectly. "fit today & drive away" The hardest part was pulling the silver dress strip off!! Cheers

Did you read this one? And also to get all the options to work on the Calais cluster you have to enable "distance to arrival" in the trip computer settings. I just set the default 500k's to 0k's. Oh & by the way, I have done just over 2000k's since the swap & all works perfect!!

Sorry, I deleted the spam post(s).... All 15 of them.

Holomatrix was referring to some spam posts about Viagra, illegal drugs, or some such thing.
The post was not in reference to any member or legit post here.

Cheers
