Hi Guys,

Sorry that my first contribution to THIS thread is yet another question/ call for help...

About now I was hoping to show off the internals of my headunit with integrated NAV enable module and VGA>RGBS converter all neatly installed along with the touchscreen etc inside the factory Head Unit.

Things were looking good and I should have finished today - but I think I've had an oops and I'm fairly bummed out right now. :(

I was searching for a switched 12V on the main circuit board and was carefully probing whilst the unit was powered from a 12V SLA that I regularly use for benchtesting.

Previously the unit (whilst fully assembled and on the bench) would display Security lockout messages But was otherwise working fine.
& Operated faultlessly in the vehicle.
I removed the LCD daughter board to gain access to the main circuit board.
Reattached the fascia (so that the unit could be switched on/off) and reattached the SLA Batt,
The unit was power cycled several times whilst looking for the switched 12V.

Upon reassembling the LCD does not work :(
THe unit powers up and works fine (all buttons on the fascia appear to work fine)
The LED illum flashes on and off at a regular 1Hz or so .

Does this little (sad) story make sense?

Anyone else had a similar oops or able to make a helpful suggestion?

Cheers, Chris.

alright guys, so everything i need is finally here that i need to do the programming, but one problem im not gifted in the computer world haha, is there anyone in melbourne/vic (im up for a drive not fussed) that can show me how to do it? il buy you a slab or something.
jezzab where abouts are you mate? would you be able to do the vim for me? how much would it cost for you to do it.
i can pul everything and put it back together with my eyes closed, just dont understand the whole numbers and changing this and that.
cheers

All part of the learning curve mate. All the data/knowledge is in the thread!, If you are unsure what exactly your doing, just take some photos of what your about to read/write. Or the component your hooked up to ect. Assuming you have a usb programmer and a eeprom clip?

Gday Chris,
Do you think the main unit is blown, or the fascia ???
(The reason I am asking Is Ive got a good main unit sitting around here that I got dirt cheap on eBay ($30 Lol)).
The only problem with it is the monkeys that pulled it from the vehicle also pulled the antenna connector (Plastic surround) off.
I think the antenna will still connect, as its just the plastic clip surround that is missing.
Cheers

Hey mate.

Not sure whether I have killed the main unit or the fascia ... not too many clues.
I'm actually guessing (& hoping) that perhaps I inadvertently cooked a voltage reg in the main unit.

I am really hoping that the fascia is okay. As it has been painted piano black, had the touchscreen installed and has been reprogrammed.

I would gladly purchase your unit (if you are willing to sell it).

I do have another complete headunit which I was going to eventually carry out a separate Frankenstein experiment & modification.

I probably need to strip the fascia's anyway so that I can read the bins of the fascia eeproms & contribute them here... but I dont know whether my G540 chip programmer can read the fascia chips - I really should do some more research

You might be interested in these fascia bins.

Fascia 1: G8 GT which has had the fascia reprogrammed (elsewhere) to have the power button function remapped to copy the Aust models. Top right button now functions as NAV and "volume push" is power
Fascia 2: G8 GXP? which has not been reprogrammed and still has power button instead of Nav button.

To help diagnose where the problem is...
I can read & program the main unit's eeprom with my G540.
If I dump the bin from the main eeprom of my now broken main unit to the spare unit that should work yeah?

I think you will find Chris the main CPU software not the Fascia EEPROM was updated from G8 to Holden to change the Power button to NAV.

Put it this way, I now have a Holden head unit that has the NAV button as a Power button :(

If you copy they main EEPROM to the spare you will have to swap the fascia to match your broken one or relink it.

Hi All,
Has anyone come up with a good fix for the VIM?
I installed a rear view camera and it works great, but anything over a snail's pace and...
Very, very annoying!

I'm not averse to pulling things to bits and I have a good grounding in electronic stuff, so does anyone have a concise list of the steps to do it, and a list of things I'd need?

Thanks,
Dave.

You have to find the bytes in the EEPROM to change the VIM speed limit. 2 bytes and they are in the last 1/2 and same position in later and earlier eeproms. Think that's a good enough hint

T2000, The Main unit is a late model version (I.E. Uses the newer EEPROM locations)...
Its yours if you want it Lol ;)

I worked out were the Fascia Head Unit links bytes are roughly located on the Head Unit and the Fascia for the Earlier Models,
But I havent been able to confirm these locations for Later model Main Units...
(I broke a clip on the glove box assy, trying to force it open without taking the NAV system out, and the plastic clip is on its last legs)...
So its difficult for me to unplug the antenna sockets in and out to test stuff now...

I have had a look at the EEPROM dumps Jezza has provided for the fascia and head unit, and I ??? THINK ???
I have the location for the newer models....

Sooooo, in theory, if you dumped the main unit EEPROM, then we could get the paring bytes (seed / key), and set the VIN and the new headunit and give it a shot ????

I think for newer units the seed/key (Link Bytes) are around 0x0059 -> 0x0061...

This should mean that you wont have to dump the fascia EEPROM...
I hope this helps....

So.... "Mr Street Commodores".... thanks for your reply :p

Bugger... was hoping to avoid doing anything with the fascia.
It is kinda delicate with the new piano black paint and touchscreen, additional wires etc.

So just like the main unit eeprom bin has the fascia serial code in it, the fascia bin has the main unit serial???
So either way I will need to read the fascia bin if I want to re-use that fascia?
& that code is then inserted into any main unit bin that the fascia will then be attached to?

Sorry for the dumb questions - you know I have a learning difficulty
