Its yours if you want it Lol ;)

I worked out were the Fascia Head Unit links bytes are roughly located on the Head Unit and the Fascia for the Earlier Models,
But I havent been able to confirm these locations for Later model Main Units...
(I broke a clip on the glove box assy, trying to force it open without taking the NAV system out, and the plastic clip is on its last legs)...
So its difficult for me to unplug the antenna sockets in and out to test stuff now...

I have had a look at the EEPROM dumps Jezza has provided for the fascia and head unit, and I ??? THINK ???
I have the location for the newer models....

Sooooo, in theory, if you dumped the main unit EEPROM, then we could get the paring bytes (seed / key), and set the VIN and the new headunit and give it a shot ????

I think for newer units the seed/key (Link Bytes) are around 0x0059 -> 0x0061...

This should mean that you wont have to dump the fascia EEPROM...
I hope this helps....

Mate that sounds awesome

The G8 units are both later models (from memory) - Jez might correct me here.

I'll give anything a try... so if we can cobble together another working headunit with a little trial and error then I would be soooo grateful!
I can email the broken main unit's BIN to you for a quick look if you like?
Not messing with the fascia would be a massive help !!! :D

BTW I've been waiting for you to send me a PM about an "Engine Tune"... Jez mentioned that you might be needing a little help from a local and some remote magic from Jez. Maybe we can make a day for stereo modding & tuning??? - Just let me know ;)

Cheers, Chris

The fascia and main EEPROM contain a shared code when linked. So if you flash your spare radio main EEPROM with your broken radios EEPROM and put the broken radios fascia on it, you should be ok.

Didnt make any progress trying to get my spare unit up and running with the pimped fascia. or getting my "prime" headunit working again.

At this stage it appears that because the "prime" unit has had a firmware update (presumably to re-map the power/nav function from stock G8) the fascia's couldnt be swapped. :(

Zerone if you are still up for letting your spare parts unit go then that would appear to be my only option for resurrecting this unit and my carPC project.

Cheers, Chris

probably a dumb question but for those that have put the later model headunit in an older ss model spec car, what wires did you cut to stop fuses blowing.

i have cut 2 wires on my brothers car to stop it blowing fuses. original headunit came out of a g8 and his is an 06 model ss.

I plugged my tech2 into to see if i could change the mode of the hvac module and there doesnt appear to be an option to set it. so while i was looking around i had a look at the set dtc's and one of them was a vin mismatch and a few others.

cheers

Gday all,

Just wish to thank everyone who has contributed to this thread!! After nearly 2 years of having a IPAD in my car, i got over it and decided the factory look was better. So i have gone back to a SSV head unit, programmed it and installed it via the instructions on this site and all works!

Hi there Westy27, and welcome to the forums !

I am glad the information here helped you out ;)

VYSSUTE, What fuse(s) are blowing when you try and plug the head unit in ???
I can try and bring up wiring diagrams for the SS Radio, and see if there is any differences ???
(The wiring for Pontiac and Australian models is different, but the only real difference I can see if the wire colours used for a couple of the Power Supply cables)....
Even then though, those cables are connected to the same pins (Dunno why Holden do funny things like this Lol)....

If you can tell me what fuses are blowing, I might be able to track the lines back, and see what is causing the problem, or what line to disconnect ?????

SERVICE PROCEDURE
Procedure for installing Version 9 (MY09.5) radio into earlier built vehicle (pre MY09.5)
VE, WM
Group 13
Ref. No. TL1781- 0904
During the life of VE and WM vehicles there have been several revisions to the radio. These different radios have different version numbers assigned to them.
Vehicles built prior to 27/10/08 (Introduction date of MY09.5 - BSI) will have a version 4, version 5 or version 6 radio. At MY09.5 introduction, the version was updated to version 9.
In some cases when replacing a radio, dealers will be supplied a later version radio by Bosch.
Installing a version 9 radio into an earlier built vehicle will result in fuse 4 (radio) blowing. In order to prevent this happening, a modification to the wiring harness is required. Follow the procedure below when installing a version 9 radio into an earlier vehicle.
Version 9 radios can be identified by the Holden P/N or Bosch P/N on the unit. Refer to following table which lists all version 9 P/N’s.

Holden P/N Bosch P/N

92228621 7648791920-002
92228618 7648794920-002
92228617 7648795920-002
92228615 7648796920-002

Procedure:
1. Disconnect the battery
2. Remove the radio.
3. Locate pin 4 of connector X4 at radio.
4. Cut the wire going to pin 4 and insulate both ends with heat shrink or similar.
5. Refit the radio and reconnect the battery.
6. Test operation of the radio.

Directly below where you type your reply (under the preview/submit buttons) is a "choose file" button which opens up an explorer menu so u can find the file u want to add from your computer. Once selected, there is an "add file" button which uploads it to the forum and attach's it to your post.

I've come to realize that everything electronic runs on smoke, you let too much of it out and the electronics stop working!
