Definitely the right way, as I've got good reads previously, have tried on the board and off the board but still either reading nothing, not reading and just hanging or the program freezes :(

Using a 3m clip also so unsure if the clip is at fault or programmer as I can't really test as I font have a adaptor,

Id be happy too send the programmer too someone too test for me if they could as I don't really want too send it back too England

Program freezes? Sounds a bit dodgy, Iv never had trouble with there software even if the clip is on wrong.

If you are using the clip, Iv noticed that the clips tend to wear.. no matter how careful you are with them, so tends to help applying a bit of pressure to the top and sides so its got a good connection.

And if you cant get a read, then Id suggest contacting mcumall and seeing if they dont have any troubleshooting to see if the programmer has issues ect.

Yeah I've tried my desktop and 2 other laptops but same issues, have updated all the drivers but still no luck :(

I'm hoping its the clip, I've pushed and all that on it but no response,

Anyway have emailed them, and the wait starts for a response

Sounds like there is something wrong with the programmer then assuming the clip isnt the problem.

Only way to be sure is to desolder the eeprom and directly put it into the programmer (without using the eeprom clip).

Or to directly solder onto the eeprom and try that way.

Not the best choices but better then having to wait weeks for the programmer to be sent back and forth.

Wired a eeprom directly too the gq4x and got multiple clean reads and writes with no problems :D

Will disassemble the clip modify it abit and try too get some good contacts with the chip

Thanks for your help TazzI!

Is it a 3M SOIC clip or just a cheap chinese one? The chinese ones are absolute crap. 3M is the only way to go

Jez is right about that. 3M clips are the way to go.

But like any clips, they wear out easily if not clipped on properly or bad use.
Your clip probably does work, but youll need to possibly move it around a bit and apply pressure.

My first clip only works when its tilted upwards and pressure applied to the sides. Just slowly began to wear until it no longer stayed clipped on and had to hold and apply pressure. Might be whats happened to yours.

The 3M clips do wear. You should always open it right up before you put it on and make sure that you open it up BEFORE you remove it. If you dont and pull up you will wear the end of the locking part of the clip very quickly. I killed my first clip before i learnt this
