This is the HSV Style Sports Mode

(It displays the current gear that the Auto Transmission has selected / is using)

And this is the HSV Manual Mode

(It constantly displays the current gear that you have manually chosen)

Not a big difference really, I previously didnt realise there were two different modes until I got the HSV cluster working.

oh ok.. cool.. well in the black cluster programming there is a on off switch for that ... (HSV mode) so i guess that is what it did..

i wasnt sure whether it was a hsv feature or not that . as it never did it single window only triple window LOL so thought it was just a triple window feature

I asked around previously, (But I didnt have pictures of either modes), and I was told the sports models
(SV6, SS, SSV) had the S1->S6 and M1->M6 at the bottom of the display, and the stock models (Omega, Berlina, Calais, Caprice) had the
other type of display !

yeh well in 2006 year SS it didnt have that S1-S6 at all and only displayed the 1-6 in manual mode so it wasnt quite true what they told you..

there are so many features in these things i am not sure anyone really knows it all..

wa mucking round with a E2 cluster a week ago and another today... they display for the EBCM "invalid" by default . not sure why and also the engine config is not correct either

is your cluster all done now.. or there are some things you still need to sort.. HSV bit or shifting display or something ?

Yeah, it's working well. I just kept playing with it to try and figure it out a bit more, see what happens. Just thought why not, while I've got the dash apart... Not so much a real want to change the gear display or anything, more a want to figure out how to. Like I think the ASCII part that says something like PCOSTGN#76 or *GMHOLDEN* is the part number. But need to double check that too.
Going to try and mount a 4.3" monitor in instead of the atari gauges and put the HVAC display on that. Then see if I still want to change the red cluster lights to white. So dash is staying apart until that's done & decision made. May as well try things in the meantime.

Does anyone by chance have an extra set of triple lcd gauges with the white back they wouldn't mind selling? I've been watching ebay but haven't had much luck. I want to try and get them working in my G8.

The PCOSTGN#76 or *GMHOLDEN* is actually the ID of the TIS tool that flashed the module last. The part numbers will be stored in hex over 4 bytes

ah, cheers Jezzab. Nice getting info from people that know stuff. I took a break from playing with the cluster as it seems to be working perfectly and got sidetracked swapping the SIC over to a colour monitor. The one thing I've noticed, is the more I played with the cluster and learned, the less I knew and understood. I was pretty sure that was the only thing I changed when the part# changed, but changing it back didn't change the part# back. So I obviously did something else.
I'm guessing that changing "bit A" might not seem to do anything, and changing "bit B" might not seem to do anything, but changing "bit A" and "bit B" will. Either that or as I think I read elsewhere here about the odometer, that changing one part might trickle down and change other parts of the code. I certainly couldn't get the Sport Mode to display S1,S2 etc like it did at one stage before, but as I never use that anyway it really is a moot point. And yes I did also search for where a bit of code I change is repeated and tried changing it in both places. (Love that Hex Editor, I'll have to learn it a bit better to get even more out of it). Just tricky figuring out where the start and end of a string is for one change. Trial and error I suppose.
Anyway, I will pull it back out again soon and write up exactly what changes I made to get mine to work. I no longer trust the notes I was writing down (for fairly obvious reasons). And I wrote a lot of notes, so that's a pity. Hopefully it will help the next person out.

JJaiman - I hear your frustration. There seems to be a couple up on ebay most of the time, but the prices can be a bit steep. Looks like I just happened to be very lucky finding one as "Buy it now" for a reasonable price. I wish you luck.
