This document describes the Programming and Diagnostic modes available with the AU Fairmont Ghia, Fairlane, Fairlane G220, and LTD model AU Ghias.
The Power Seat/Pedal/Mirror Memory module allows for 2 separate positions for 2 remote keypads programmed in to the BEM system, and a further 3 Mirror/Pedal/Seat Positions that are available by using the 3 Memory buttons located on the side of the drivers seat.
The Seat and Pedal positions are stored within the Memory module, located underneath the drivers seat cushion towards the back of the seat.
The Mirror positions are stored within the Mirror Memory module, which is located within the drivers side door trim, roughly behind the mirror remote control switch.
A drivers seating, mirror and pedal positions and preferences are retrieved from the memory modules when,
- A driver unlocks the vehicle using the remote keypad. (Seat positions are retrieved for that keypad.
- A memory key is depressed momentarily on the drivers seat, when the ignition switch is in the off or accessories position.
- A driver unlocks the vehicle using the remote keypad. (Seat positions are retrieved for that keypad.

The seat, mirror, and pedal positions can be programmed in to the Seats memory buttons, located on the side of the seat.
To program the seat, mirror and pedal positions,
- 1) Set the seat position, mirrors, and pedals to the desired position.
- 2) Press and Hold one of the three memory buttons located on the side of the drivers seat, until 2 chimes are heard.
To recall the seat, mirror and pedal positions,
- 1) Turn the ignition switch to the "Off" or "Acc" position.
- 2) Either Press one of the 3 memory buttons momentarily on the side of the drivers seat, or
- 2) Enter the vehicle using one of the 2 programmed remote keypads.
Saving Seat, Mirror, and Pedal positions to the remote keypads.
- 1) unlock the vehicle using the selected remote keypad that is to be used for the new seating position.
- 2) Configure the seating position, pedal position, and mirror position to the desired locations.
- 3) These positions will be automatically saved for the selected remote keypad, and will be recalled whenever that keypad is used to unlock the vehicle.
- 1) Set the seat position, mirrors, and pedals to the desired position.

The Mirror dip feature allows a further position setting for both the left hand side, and right hand side mirrors, when the vehicle is placed in reverse gear.
This feature is designed to assist the driver in determining vehicle position when parking near street gutters and near other vehicles, when reversing the vehicle.
Therefore it is recommended that when this feature is activated, and the mirrors are positioned to help aid in rearward vision.
The mirror dip button is located next to the seat memory buttons, on the drivers seat.
To enable Mirror memory dipping
- 1) Turn the ignition switch to the "On" position.
- 2) Select REVERSE gear.
- 3) Press and hold the "Mirror Dip" button located on the drivers seat, for a period of 2 seconds.
A double chime will be heard, indicating that the feature is enabled.
To disable Mirror memory dipping
- 1) Turn the ignition switch to the "On" position.
- 2) Select REVERSE gear.
- 3) Press and hold the "Mirror Dip" button located on the drivers seat, for a period of 2 seconds.
A single chime will be heard, indicating that the feature has been disabled.
Determining if Mirror memory dipping is enabled or disabled.
Depressing the Mirror dipping button briefly will return if the mirror dipping setting has been activated.
If depressing the button returns no chime sounds, then the system is enabled,
If depressing the button returns a single chime, then the Mirror memory dip setting has been disabled.
Storing a Mirror memory dip setting
With the ignition in the On position and reverse gear selected, if Mirror dipping has been enabled, the mirror will automatically move to its memorised position.
To store a new position,
- 1) Enable Mirror Memory dipping - See above procedure for details,
- 2) Turn the ignition "On", and select reverse gear.
- 3) Using the Remote Mirror switch, position the mirrors to the desired reverse dip position.
- 4) To store the desired position, press and hold one of the seat memory buttons. This will store the desired mirror dipped position for use with the selected Seat/Mirror/Driver position.
NOTE : Changing the reverse mirror dipped position, without saving to a default seat button memory, will alter the Keypad mirror dipped setting, for the keypad used to unlock the vehicle.
The mirror dipping position can be toggled On/Off by depressing momentarily the mirror dip button, whilst the vehicle is in reverse gear.
- 1) Turn the ignition switch to the "On" position.

The memory seat module has a diagnostic mode, which allows for easier fault finding when the module, motor, wiring, or sensor is faulty.
Diagnostic codes are sounded using the memory modules internal chime, once the seat has been placed in diagnostic mode.
There are 2 Diagnostic reports available with the memory seat module.
- 1. Logged Diagnostic codes - These are problems that have been previously logged by the memory module. These problems may still exist within the system, or they may have been rectified, or no longer present. (These codes should be cleared once any repairs to the memory seat system have been carried out).
- 2. Current Diagnostic codes - These are problems that currently exist with the memory seat module. Any current diagnostic codes should be acted upon in order to repair the memory seat system to complete and full working order.
To enter the memory seat Diagnostic Mode,
- 1 Turn ignition key to position ???II???
- 2 Complete the following events within 30 sec, successful entry to Diagnostic Mode will be identified by 3 chimes within 1 sec of Step 7.
- 3 Depress buttons 1 & 3 on the Memory Seat.
- 4 Move Automatic transmission lever into ???R??? (Reverse).
- 5 Release buttons 1 & 3 on the memory seat.
- 6 Depress buttons 1 & 3 on the memory seat.
- 7 Release buttons 1 & 3 on the memory seat.
- 8 Move transmission out of ???R??? (Reverse) after the 3 chimes have sounded.
You will now be within the memory seat diagnostic mode.
- 9 Complete the following procedure to check for any fault codes that may have been logged in past. (Memory faults).
- a. Press button 1 on the memory seat to play back fault codes from the module.
- b. The memory seat module will signal the end of fault codes with flat line signal (Long Beep).
- c. To check or repeat logged memory codes, press the memory seat button 1 again.
- d. Once codes are recorded press button 3 to clear all logged memory faults.
- 10 Complete the following procedure to check for present faults only and add present faults to memory faults.
- a. Press button 2 and module to run self test and play back fault codes.
- b. Any repeat of error codes previously recorded in Step 7 indicates that the error is still present and will require further investigation.
- c. Any error codes recorded that were not previously recorded in Step 7 indicates that the self test has established a the new fault displayed will require further investigation.
- e. Errors recorded in Step 7 but not repeated in Step 10 indicates that an error has occurred in the past but is no longer present. (This may assist in fault finding if you have experienced a problem in the past but is unable to repeat the problem again (Problem is intermittent.)
- 1. Logged Diagnostic codes - These are problems that have been previously logged by the memory module. These problems may still exist within the system, or they may have been rectified, or no longer present. (These codes should be cleared once any repairs to the memory seat system have been carried out).

Fault codes can be determined by listing for the memory seat chime, and timing the audible response to determine what diagnostic codes are present within the system.
The chime will sound a number of times, indicating the first digit of the fault code.
After this, a break of approximately 1.5 seconds will be heard. This break represents the next digit of the fault code.
The second fault code digit will then be chimed out. The number of chimes should be counted and recorded.
Finally, there will be a pause of 4 seconds. This pause indicates the end of the fault code that is being played. If the chime sounds again, a new fault code is being played.
