12v power supply

Hi Guys,

Wondering if anyone knows how to remove and reinstall the 12v in the centre console, the plastic housing on mine broke and I have the new part but I cannot work out how to install it other than it needs to slot in from behind!..

Hi there Yergin.

Yeah, this thing is a real PITA to get out, and you may need to remove the centre console assembly to get it out to replace.
(Here is a picture of the back of the power socket)



As you can see from the above picture (Click on it for a large high res version), the black surround clips in to the center console assembly, and then the power socket is inserted in to the black ring....

You may be able to get good access to this section by removing the rear vents.




Once you have the vents removed, there are 2 screws holding the console in place.


If you remove these screws, then you will be able to partially move the center console upward, to gain access to this section.

Those photos are awesome and will no doubt help when I do it, out of interest how do I go about getting the housing onto the power, is there a point that the power supply unplugs so I can insert it on.

If you don't know that's cool, i'll be doing this on Thursday or Friday when I have a couple of RDO's.

ok got the whole back section off today, can find the plug that clips into the power, but cannot get the centre console out or move the wires as it appears they clip in underneath!..

I knew there had to be a reason why the part was under $5 from Holden lol.

Ill post up as many pictures as possible, to try and help out.

If you want the whole center console bin out, its not too difficult to do, but it will take you around 15 to 30 minutes to complete.

1) Remove the Transmission trim. (To get access to the grab handle and handbrake cup trim bits)


2) Remove the small trim bit behind the cup holders.


3) Remove the three screws for the cup holders.


4) Remove the Cup holder (It just clips in after the three screws are removed)


5) Remove the Handbrake cup trim. (I think its held in with two screws).


6) Remove the Upper grab handle trim. (Held in by two screws and clips in).


7) Remove the lower grab handle trim bit. (Held in by three screws)


8) Next, remove the 1 screw inside the centre console bin. (You may need to remove the rubber mat to see it.


9) Also don't forget to unscrew these 2 screws at the back of the centre console.


With all this stuff removed, the back of the centre console should be able to lift out,
how ever to get the whole assembly out, you will need to dis-engage the clips holding the assembly to the lower radio trim.

Also if you are going that far, you may want to look at fitting a centre console bin light.

You will need a dremel, and some steady hands (Which I didnt have on this day
You will also need a glove box switch and lamp.

Thanks mate, don't need a console light (WM Caprice model, so already have it, thanks though)

If I can do this i'll save myself about $90 from getting my mechanic to do it!.

for a $2 part i'd rather not spend that kind of money!!

Completed in about 2 hours, so @ $88 p/h for labour I saved upto $180 by doing it myself!..
